Where this data comes from
Each source below says what it gives us, what it leaves out and how current our copy is.
How TyresGone works with the public register
The register itself
Every listing on TyresGone comes from the Environment Agency’s public register of waste carriers, brokers and dealers for England. We copy it on a rolling basis, district by district. The register records who is registered to carry waste, their tier, their registration type and when the registration expires.
- What it gives us
- Registration identity, tier, type, address and expiry details across 428,512 registrations in force.
- How current it is
- Copied on a rolling basis, district by district; the copy as a whole was last updated 9 October 2026.
Registrations in force on the day counted, on TyresGone's copy of the Environment Agency's public register of waste carriers, brokers and dealers for England: every registration our copy shows the register still listing, that TyresGone does not withhold, and that has not expired. Lower-tier registrations do not expire, so every listed one counts; an upper-tier registration counts up to and including its expiry date. Every kind of carrier, broker and dealer is counted, not only tyre collectors, wherever its business address is.
Counted on 9 October 2026.
What the register does not tell us
The register does not record what waste a carrier actually handles. It records permission to carry waste, not the type of waste carried.
Companies House
Where a registration carries a company number, we cross-reference Companies House and show the company’s status. Where the two registers disagree — an active waste carrier registration against a dissolved or struck-off company, for example — we show that disagreement rather than hiding it. It gives a garage another public record to consider before handing over waste.
- What it gives us
- Company status for registrations carrying a company number, and visible disagreements between the two public registers.
- How current it is
- Read when the company record is requested.
Other Environment Agency registers, used for matching
We match carriers to these registers by business name and postcode. Only the fact of a match is shown on a carrier’s page; no holder name, address or postcode from these registers is stored or shown. A register records what a business is permitted to do, not what it does, and a carrier with no match is not marked in any way.

How waste streams are assigned
These businesses are registered waste carriers with the Environment Agency. Some are listed here because their registered name suggests this waste; others because their name and postcode match a record on another public register, such as a scrap metal dealer licence or an authorised treatment facility permit. Neither is a statement by the carrier. A register records what a business is permitted to do, not what it does. Always confirm with the carrier before you hand over waste.
A carrier may handle waste types we have not inferred, and may not handle one we have.
How this list is built
The tyre directory lists registrations on the Environment Agency public register whose business name indicates tyre work. A fixed rule reads the name: words such as tyre, tyres, rubber, retread, remould, part worn and casing, while common surnames and puns that only look like tyre words are left out.
A person reviews doubtful names and decides which registrations are kept or excluded. Each listing is placed in a town by its postcode district, using the town most registrations in that district give.
TyresGone does not approve, endorse, accredit or recommend any carrier. If a listing looks wrong, use the “Report a correction” link beside it, or tell us what you found.
What we do not do
TyresGone does not approve, endorse, accredit or recommend any carrier. We show what public registers said on the date we last synced them, and we show where those registers disagree with each other. Judging whether a carrier is right for your waste, and satisfying yourself before you hand it over, remains your responsibility under section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Corrections
If a record looks wrong, tell us what you found. If you represent the registered business, you can also claim its page and keep your own information clearly separate from the public-register facts.
